After slim 2:2 draw against Gijon at home, Valencia lost to Getafe, in spite of the fact that they were the ones to open the score. Atletico Madrid still haven’t tasted victory this season and after four rounds they have only two points.

After a derby win over Sevilla at home, Valencia picked up a convincing away win over Valladolid. Sporting Gijon managed to recover after the big loss to Barcelona and managed to win over Almeria.

Lille finally managed to recover from the poor start having beaten Sochaux last weekend and they thus created a good introduction for the match against Valencia. Los Che, on the other hand, have confirmed that the win over Sevilla was no coincidence, as they defeated Valladolid on the road.

Valladolid played a goalless draw with Almeria in the opening round and can certainly be pleased wth the score of the game they mostly played with a man less than their rivals. In the first round’s derby, Valencia beat Sevilla at home 2-0, but we shouldn’t forget guests spent the entire second half with a man down after Kanute was sent off sue to double booking.

The real derby of the opening round in Spanish Primera will take place at Mestalla, where Valencia will host Sevilla. Los Che played with oscillations in the last season and thanks to poor run of results in the finish of the season, they were left without a place in the Champions League. On the other hand, after a poor start Sevilla managed to get hold of the third place and a place in the Champions League.

None of these teams have the reasons to take this game seriously. After Copa Del Rey finals Basque side return to Valencia to play against local team this time. Levantine derby comes at the worst time for both teams. Both Villarreal and Valencia don’t stand much chance of playing in the Champions League again. In spite of the minimum but deserved win against Real “the yellow submarine” stayed on sixth place that guarantees only a place in the Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup). Valencia lost to Atletico in Madrid so their place in the biggest European competition is not up to them. The match in the first part of the season at Mestalla ended in a 3:3 draw.

This should be a very exciting match between two attack-minded teams, who are direct rivals for Champions League place. Atletico remained in the race by beating Espanyol in the last round even though they were two goals down at half-time, while Valencia hammered Real and thus made a great introduction for this clash.
